Class of 2019 Thesis Presentations

On the evenings of May 8th, 13th, 15th, and 16th, all students in the Chelsea senior class presented their theses to the faculty, students, family, and friends. This senior thesis engages some aspect of the Great Conversation as it develops a question in history, literature, theology, philosophy, science, mathematics, or another approved subject area. Each student had chosen an advisor to participate in the reading of a Great Book, and the thesis represents the capstone assignment of a student’s development as a writer at Chelsea Academy. In their presentations, students addressed permanent ideas like beauty, friendship, the good life, and quantum theory. They discussed authors ranging from Plato and Aristotle to Austen and Tolstoy and then to Einstein and Lavoisier. The seniors ably presented their work and then answered questions on their thesis, the research process, and the place of the thesis in their studies at Chelsea. These four nights really illuminated the hard of work of the students and their progress as students in the liberal arts.
