Embracing the ancient Greek ideal of mens sana in corpore sano (a healthy mind in a healthy body), Chelsea Academy requires participation in its sports program as a way of promoting physical development, athletic skills, and team play as well as building character and good sportsmanship in its students.
Chelsea is a member of the Delaney Athletic Conference (DAC) and competes against other DAC as well as non-conference schools at the Middle School, JV, and Varsity levels. Students in grades 6-11 are required to participate on a sports team during at least one season each year. Students in grade 5 may participate on Middle School teams.
For its practice facilities and home games, Chelsea rents fields and courts in and around Front Royal. Soccer teams practice and play home games at the Rivendell fields on Progress drive. Volleyball and basketball teams use the gym at the Virginia International Academy for games and practices in addition to the Rivendell gym for practices. Tennis teams use the courts at Chimney Field Park and next to the Bing Crosby Baseball Stadium.
