Chelsea Seniors Take On The Team America Rocketry Challenge
For the first time ever, Chelsea Academy is participating in a nationwide contest – TARC, or Team America Rocketry Challenge. Eight seniors and one faculty member, with the help of a rocketry specialist, Mr. Merchant, are working hard to win the contest. The goal is to design and build a model rocket containing three eggs with a certain weight, length, flight time, apogee, decent rate, velocity, and safe retrieval of the three eggs. The team must first prove that the rocket can achieve all these requirements before launching their rocket in front of judges in May. If the Chelsea team wins the contest, they could qualify for the international contest in June, where high schools world-wide, in front of major companies such as Boeing, NASA, and Lockheed Martin, launch their rocket for the third time, but with more specific requirements.
On Saturday morning, the Rocketry Club students successfully launched their rocket in a practice round. Many thanks to Mr. Foster and Mr. Merchant for their support, and to all those who came out to watch the launch.
