Early in the third quarter, all Chelsea students and teachers step away from regular classes not to take a break from school but to enrich and expand upon their classroom experiences. The two-day program entitled E3: Exploration, Expedition, Enrichment allows teachers to share a personal interest with students who are invited to – as the name indicates – explore new ideas and new places with purpose and bring their enriching experience back to their classmates and families. By blending grade levels, courses encourage interaction among the Upper and Middle School. The E3 program promotes the Chelsea mission in fostering understanding, friendship, and a spirit of adventure through its education. In the first three years of the program, students have explored caves through spelunking; visited hospitals to witness open heart surgery; walked the fields of Gettysburg; planned, prepared, and shared a high tea; hiked, skied, and camped in the snow; visited the Pentagon, Supreme Court, and Capitol; cast lines into freezing waters in search of winter fish; and attended concerts and ballets at the Kennedy Center.
